From the Mountain Valleys of the Pakistan–Afghanistan Border
The Tirah Maidan Hash Plant originates from the Tirah Valley. This is a remote mountain region located in today’s Khyber District of Pakistan, close to the Afghan border. The area has a long history of small-scale cannabis farming and traditional dry-sift hashish production.
For centuries, local communities have cultivated cannabis in the Tirah Valley. Pashtun tribes, especially the Afridi, introduced the plant to the region around six hundred years ago. Since that time, growers have continuously selected plants for resin production. As a result, Tirah stands as one of Pakistan’s most important traditional hash-producing regions.
Notably, Tirah hashish is famous for its extremely oily and sticky resin. Traditionally produced as garda (dry-sifted resin), it comes from large, resin-saturated flowers and is known for its powerful, body-heavy effects.
A Center of Genetic Diversity
Tirah Valley sits at over 2,000 meters above sea level. It lies within a transition zone where cannabis populations begin to express highly diverse traits. Because of this, the Tirah Maidan landrace displays exceptional genetic diversity.
Plant morphology varies widely. Around 30% of the plants grow taller and feature narrow leaflets, giving them a more wild, highland appearance. Meanwhile, the remaining plants are bushier and more Indica-leaning. Across all phenotypes, the plants are known for their unusually large calyxes, abundant bracts, and dense trichome coverage. In addition, many plants show beautiful natural colorations.
For these reasons, this landrace is especially attractive to pheno hunters and breeders seeking rare, authentic genetic expressions.
Effects & Aromas
Because it was traditionally selected for hash making, Tirah Maidan delivers a deeply sedative and body-heavy effect. Strong couch-lock is common. However, despite the physical heaviness, the mental state often remains clear and alert. This contrast is typical of traditional resin cultivars.
The aroma profile is unmistakably old school. It is dominated by:
- Classic hash notes
- Tea and coffee aromas
- Nutty, musky, earthy, and spicy undertones
Due to its strength and depth, this effect profile can be overwhelming for those unfamiliar with true landrace potency.
Growth Characteristics
Tirah Maidan plants are hardy, resilient, and easy to grow. They are light feeders and well adapted to difficult environments. This reflects generations of rain-fed (barani) mountain agriculture.
Key growth traits include:
- Indoor flowering: approximately 9–11 weeks
- Outdoor harvest: early to late October
- Structure: ranges from squat and bushy to tall and narrow-leafed
- Feeding: light to moderate
Because of their genetic diversity, most plants display strong vigor and robust growth.
Preservation & Reproduction
A trusted Pakistani-English strain hunter known as Tokecity collected the original seeds directly at source in Tirah Maidan, Northern Tirah, and gifted them to us. Since then, the Khalifa Genetics team has carried out a careful reproduction run.
The goal was to produce fresh seeds while improving sexual stability. At the same time, the team took great care to preserve as much of the original genetic diversity as possible.
Ultimately, thanks to its deep history, wide diversity, and resin-focused selection, Tirah Maidan Hash Plant stands as a true example of living cannabis heritage. That is why it is a valuable addition for collectors, breeders, and lovers of authentic landrace genetics.
