80’s Durban Poison From the north coast of Durban, KwaZulu-Natal

Legendary strain from the northern coastal belt of Durban (South Africa).
Every individual has heard of the infamous Durban poison, well known for being a pure potent Sativa. But where does this strain come from? There are many stories around the origins of this African bush cannabis that nobody can actually place or prove. What we do know is that these genetics are worth saving, be it for preservation or hybridization this strain has it all.

Near Extinct Species

Our friend Ryan, passionate strain hunter from South Africa, obtained some old seeds from his dad’s best friend. That friend used to grow and sell Durban Poison back in the 1980’s. While going through the storage area of his house, he found old seeded Durban Poison buds. He then immediately gave the seeds (about 200 in total) to Ryan as he was aware of Ryan’s preservation work at the “Love Of Landrace” collective. Being over 30 years old, only 20 seeds popped and only 13 were able to break the ground.
This 80’s Durban Poison is therefore the real deal as it has never been hybridized with any modern strain. Growers can expect to see plants being very different from the Dutch Durban Poison.

Growth Pattern

Coming from a very humid area, the Durban Poison offers great mold resistance. Being very hardy and vigorous, it is also extremely pest-resistant.
This strain stands tall and wide, boasting a height of 4m (13ft) with branches reaching out in a creeper like structure. During flower this strain gives off strong aromas of pepper with a tinge of passion fruit. Like most African Sativas this plant thrives planted in the ground at the beginning of the spring season and has a flowering time of 15 weeks outdoors. The branches have small popcorn fox tailing buds leading to a large cola at the top of the branches. Due to the size of this long flowering Sativa you can expect high yields of a pure quality African Sativa.

Effect

80’s Durban poison is a mind numbing Sativa that enhances creativity and suppresses appetite. It lasts longer then your average smoke and boasts a THC reading of 16%.
Clear-headedness, creativity and also slight anxiety are the effects reported by most users.

Everyone use khalifa genetics for all your landrace and rare hybrid needs! Communications were prompt and pleasant. They had no problem shipping from across the pond to the good ol usa. Will definitely do business with them in the future!

As a through and through happy customer I was very sad to find out that none of my Durban beans sprouted. They seem to be bad quality in comparison to other strains here.

Hello Iri P and thank you for your precious feedback,

The Durban seeds are harder to sprout because of their very thick shells.
That being said, the germination rate should still be above 70% and we also offer extra seeds in every pack.

How many seeds did you try to sprout?
Would you like a replacement pack?

      Best regards,
      Al & the Khalifa team

Durban from Khalifa seeds is awesome. Its easy to grow, has a wonderful old school smell and taste, its versitile and adaptable and just an all around great plant, especially for hybridizing with other landraces. The high is very uplifting and cerebral, it gives one hunger and later gives way to sleep and contentment. If growing inside I recommend starting from 14 hours dark to limit height and initiate flowering faster. Can be topped and is recommended with full sativas. This is an African classic! I hope Khalifa seeds gets more African varieties under its name, Love of landrace has quite a few that need some going through and stabilizing. BUY THIS STRAIN!

This seeds are a bit harder to sprout. Thats absolutely correct. You have to be patient.
Khalifa offers a very good service and is very friendly.
After sprouting you get strong healthy plants. I already love the this strain :D. I will try to grow them outdoors. Lets see how they grow until autumn :)

I usually don’t have problems with germination. However, of the 12 I got, only 8 sprouted. Of those 8, only 6 lived through the first two weeks. Two never got larger than my pinky finger and subsequently died. I have never had that happen with any plant ever.
Luckily I had two males and four females so everything went ok, but my plan to sprout six at a time, half a year apart had to be abandoned.
So far, the female I selected looks very promising, smells amazing and is growing fine.
Just thought I mention for everyone interested in buying that you might have to buy a larger pack just to be sure.

    Well. Now it is autumn.
I had two males and a few females – that was very good.
Now it is november in southern Germany and my plants are still outside. They grew really huge until summer. But the buds wont finish 100% (they are smokeable but not perfect).
Flowering-period is way to long for an outdoorgrow in my climate. Because of that i have smaller buds of course. But nevertheless i really like my experimental grow. I was able to produce a lot of seeds, which will be finished within this week (then harvest).
I had a pheno type which was purple, and a normal green one. Both have an intens smell of pepper and spice. Some have a bit of fruity notes… – but a very bit…..
They are quite mold resistant. But this is not surprising, because i have of course only small and airy buds. Which is absolutly ok for my climate and this strain!
I also made some clones for further indoor experiments.
For sure i will keep the seeds and do a second generation! Maybe i will try to breed something with an earlyer flowering and also shorter flower-period in this strain, with the aim to get a better outdoor-result here. But we will see… – i´m not experienced in breeding and only do my hobby-experiments for me :)
Over all I´m very happy with the seeds and plants i got. I did not expect to harvest big sticky buds in my outdoorexperiment, and i got a lot of seeds for further experiments. – so perfect.

Got the 12 pack because of people on here complaining about low germ rates. Of 14 seeds, 14 sprouted. That’s actually not what I wanted but whatever.
I soaked seeds for 3 hours in 1% hydrogen peroxide solution (1 part 3% H2O2 and 2 parts distilled water) then placed seeds between damp paper towels in ziplock bag placed between porcelain plates on heat mat set to 26C. In two days, they all sprouted.
